As House and Senate Leadership finalize the details of the forthcoming reconciliation bill, we urge them to ensure that the bill invests in youth employment and pathways to good jobs.
We are calling on leadership — including Senate Budget Chairman Sen. Bernie Sanders, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Sen. Chuck Schumer — to direct a substantial part of the Civilian Climate Corps funding to expand subsidized jobs for young people.
With unemployment for young people being nearly twice the national average, as many 10 million young people need the opportunity a subsidized job provides. This is particularly the case for Opportunity Youth, aka young people ages 16-24 who are not in school and are not working.
The climate crisis is a persistent & imminent threat. And so is the economic crisis. The direct impacts of both issues are disproportionately felt by youth & communities of color. The jobs of the future must address these inextricably linked issues.
Sign onto our virtual letter and join our campaign to ensure that there is consistent investment in young people.
